Dawn Glesener began drawing at an early age.  Her cousin showed her how to sketch in 4th grade and by the 5th grade she had won a district poster contest and began drawing and painting murals for the school programs.

In Jr. High, Dawn was drawing and painting realistic works of art, featuring animals and landscapes.

In High School, she was the artist for the school newspaper and yearbook.  She also received several 1st place awards for her acrylic paintings in school art contests.

Dawn took a beginning photography class in High School, which launched her interest in that medium.  Her parents bought her an SLR camera as a gift going into college (where she received a BA degree in Art/ Applied Painting at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota).

Dawn enjoyed taking photos and realized quickly that her natural art ability and sense of composition translated well to the photograph.

In the early 1990’s, Dawn became interested in Hand-Colored Black and White Photography, but did not know how the process was done.  So she checked out a book from the library (written in 1963) and learned how to use photo oil paints.

Discovering a traditional and interesting form of painting, Dawn found that she could combine her art/ painting abilities to her photography.

That’s when her professional career began…since then, she has taken many portraits throughout the years and enjoys the interaction with the people she meets.
